In Balangir district annually around
80,000 extremely poor land-less/ marginal
farmers most of them are tribal —migrate
to neighboring states to find livelihood
opportunity. They spend 7-8 months (November
to May/June) out of their home, live
in extremely difficulty, face assault,
exploitation; even girls/women are exploited
sexually/raped/killed, children lose
their schooling, care and nutrition.
They live like family always in transit
and they work like bonded labor whether
in their own village or outside.
We have started to study the situation
and interacting with community to find
out peoples option of livelihood
and sustainable income-generation.
