Ayurvedic
medicine is close to hand, cheap and
extremely useful medicines with no
side effects. Our area is rich in
medicinal herbs , which many companies
are regularly collecting from forests
and making huge profit out of it.
But the local Practitioners (Baidya)
remain neglected, unrecognized and
poor even called as quacks. Thus the
traditional knowledge of Ayurvedic/herbal
medicine is decaying slowly.
Looking
at this condition we have facilitated
a group of Ayurvedic practitioners
in Sonepur district; they are trained
and encouraged to form their own group—now
67 Baidys are
united in a District level forum called
Sonepur
Jilla Ayurvediya Mahasangha and registered
as a society in 2005. they are trained by eminent herbal medicinal Fr. Joseph Chittoor
of Karnataka and they are encouraged
to plan their action plan to utilize
their knowledge & skill in a planned
way to cater need of the community
and develop their group as an important
resource group in the community.
